Canadian Academic English Language
Students looking at studying in Canada need to demonstrate their language efficiency and aptitude to take admission in their desired University/College in Canada.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTS:
Since the medium of instruction in most Canadian Universities is English, it is important for students wanting to study in Canada to be well versed in English for easy comprehension. The Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL) is accepted by many Canadian institutes for admission.
-
CAEL Test: The CAEL is a standardized 3.5-hour test that measures the student's English language ability for academic and professional purposes. It assesses skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing and the scores are accepted in many institutions across Canada and the United States.Click here for a complete list. This test can be taken at a test centre or online at home. The test is only offered from Friday to Sunday. Scores are given on a scale of 0-120 with each section getting a maximum score of 30. One of the benefits of this test is that it can be taken at a test centre or remotely at home.
WHY TAKE THE CAEL EXAM?
While students are aware that admission to a Canadian Institute requires a particular score on the CAEL exam, there are other reasons why the exam should be taken:
1. CAEL is one of the best tools for identifying students with the right English skills for academic success. It provides an authentic representation of language use in a Canadian academic context. Test takers read articles, listen to a lecture, answer questions, and write a short essay, as they would be expected to do in a first-year Canadian university or college classroom.
2. An objective evaluation of your English language skills. Taking the CAEL exam helps you to understand your skill level. The CAEL criteria is one of the most stringent.
3. A globally recognized certification. The CAEL exam provides a test record that is recognized and approved by educational institutions in Canada and the United States as well as businesses, professional organizations and government agencies.
4. Enhance your language skills. Taking the exam will improve your skills in all four sections-speaking, writing, listening and reading. This will help you to communicate better!
5. Better understanding of English. The CAEL test will provide you with a better understanding of the language that is required for the institution that you are applying to.
CAEL FEE
CAEL Exam Fee: Rs. 12,500. This fee includes sending the scores to up to 4 institutions.
Rescheduling fee: CAD $50
Additional score reports: CAD $20 each
Cancellation Policy:
If the student is taking the online test at home, they can cancel up to 48 hours before the test date. A student taking the test at a testing centre can only cancel the test 7 days prior to the test date. In both cases, 50% of the test fees will be refunded.
The CAEL scores are valid for 2 years. The scores cannot be extended and the student will need to retake the exam after two years.
Exam Dates and Syllabus:
The CAEL Test is conducted throughout the year. It is advisable to take the test three to four months prior to your admisson dates so that you have time to prepare for the exam as well as time to retake the test if you are not satisfied with the scores. In India, the test is conducted in 5 test centres and can be booked online. Candidates below the age of 16 are not eligible to take the test.
Before you register for the test, it is important to understand the syllabus. Students are graded on the five components of listening, speaking and Academic A & Academic B. The total score is the sum of each component score. The duration of the test is 2 hours and follows the structure given below.
