Exam Dates and Syllabus:

The Duolingo Test is conducted throughout the year.  It is advisable to take the test three to four months prior to your admisson dates so that you have time to prepare for the exam as well as time to retake the test if you are not satisfied with the scores.

Before you register for the test, it is important to understand the syllabus.  Students are graded on the four components of listening, speaking, writing and reading.  The total score is the sum of each component score. The duration of the test is 1 hour and follows the structure given below.

Exam Structure:

The test is divided into two sections:

1.  Adaptive Section:  The difficulty of the questions changes based on your performance. Some questions may seem easier or harder than others. There is no set number of questions. The test ends once the grading engine is confident in your score. Each test will be different.

2. Speaking and Writing Section:     In this section, you will have a simulated conversation with an animated character of DET.  There will be 5-6 adaptive questions  based on the conversation.
